Race Season Begins!
2013 Race Practices
Our Women’s Novice program (New Paddlers):
- Tuesday and Thursday nights 5:45 – 8:00 p.m.
- Saturday afternoon 12:00 – 2:30 p.m.
Our Men’s Novice program (New Paddlers):
- Monday and Wednesday nights 5:45 – 8:00 p.m.
- Saturday afternoon 12:00 – 2:30 p.m.
Our Men’s program:

- Saturday mornings 8:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Our Women’s program:
- Tuesday and Thursday nights 5:45 – 8:00 p.m.
- Sunday mornings 8:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Meet at our practice location at least 20min before practice. You’ll want to wear clothes that you won’t mind if you get splashed and you’ll want to bring a bottle of water. Simply read, print, and sign the release form and bring it with you to the practice.
Kai Elua Outrigger is the oldest competitive San Diego based outrigger canoe club.
Kai Elua Outrigger offers a competitive men’s and women’s program that will train and condition you for the sport of outrigger canoe racing. If you are new to the sport and love the thrill of competition come to any of our beginner novice practices.
Currently Kai Elua is preparing for the Southern California racing season, beginning in May, and continuing on until the end of September. We welcome anyone to come and meet with the team and coaches.
The Paddling Season
In California the outrigger canoe racing season generally lasts from May to September and is divided into three segments; iron, regatta and long distance (9-man) races.
Paddling demands total cooperation and physical and mental effort from each participant. Paddling is very much a team sport with no one person being able to carry the team. In paddling, unity is essential to the success of each crew.
A big part of Kai Elua Outrigger is Ohana, which means family. Kai Elua Outrigger Canoe Club prides itself on our team unity and togetherness. We are always looking to increase our member base and would love for you and your friends to come out experience Kai Elua Paddling.
